One of our latest auto restoration projects was a transmission conversion on a 1950 Buick Special Straight 8. It's been really fun attacking this project. The car is a BEAUTY as you can tell from the video so we were really excited to get back under the hood to soup this baby up!

The first step in the process was to remove the old 2-speed, dynoflow transmission and replace it with the much improved 3 speed GM 400 turbo transmission.

Next we had to remove the old differential. This can be a bit tricky so if you're trying to do it for your own muscle car restoration project, we recommend that you stop by Brauns Automotive and for some tips and advice!

Once we got the old differential removed, we installed a Currie 9" differential, Chris Alston 4 link suspension, coil-over shocks, and panhard rod. Not only does it look better under the car, you can definitely tell that it's more solid. You can really feel the difference in the ride as well.

All in all, it took us a little time and sweat but it was well worth it! The project was completed in August and we're psyched about the results; 400 turbo transmission with 355 gear ratio differential for 3 speeds and more power up a hill.

Our next step is to bring this baby in for some chassis dyno testing to see where we're at with the horsepower and torque numbers!
